Santa Cruz Math Circle Fall 2016
October 2nd to November 20th, 2016
The Santa Cruz Math Circle is a weekly math meeting for kids who love math in 5th to 8th grade. Each week students will meet with mathematical professionals in an informal setting to work on interesting problems or topics in mathematics. The instructors are mathematicians, scientists and engineers who use math every day and many of them have their PhD in math. Math Circles are designed to be interactive and focus on problem solving. The topics covered in a Math Circle are not normally included in the standard classroom curriculum.
The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) has a nice video introduction to Math Circles which includes teachers who have presented at the Santa Cruz Math Circle - Dr. Paul Zeitz, Dr. Zvezdelina Stankova and Dr. Tatiana Shubin.
Last year, the math circle was covered in three articles in the Oct. 31. 2014, Oct 10, 2015, Feb. 15, 2016 and on KQED.
